The web has made us impatient. We want information and we want it now. Not in 2 seconds from now but right now, immediately!
If your website takes more than 5-8 seconds to load, it is possible to double conversion rates by just lowering your load time to 1-3 seconds.
Now, the line is not quite that linear. As a site gets faster, the conversion rates usually climb and they reach a point where a faster site doesn’t make a difference. For some sites, the point can be 5 seconds; although that is uncommon. For other sites, the point could be a mere 1.9 seconds.
We recently came across a few websites where their owners needed to improve the loading time, websites which needed at least 6-7 seconds to load so we decided to do some tests and see the after effect.
By improving their site’s loading time to an average of 2.0 – 2.5 seconds, we were able to measure increases in conversion rates that reached up to 68% within only a few weeks. WooHoo!!!
Beyond conversion rate changes, site speed is taken into account when calculating your quality score and organic rankings.
